Welcome back and a happy 2009 to all.
Last year was all about 'mobile'. The highlights were the Apple iPhone & iPhone 3G, Google's Android Platform, the Blackberry Storm and the growth of the mini-laptop market. Mobile computing is finally here, so what's going to happen this year? Social network consolidation with the likes of Power.com and the growth of interactive online TV are two trends to look out for. Oh and I hear that Apple may be releasing a new HD iPhone this year - Happy reading, Garry and Mark. |

Brilliant spoof campaign

A nice bit of fun for your dreary return to work. This site however will no doubt get lots of word-of-mouth PR thanks to its well conceived humour. Furthermore, it bound to generate more hits for its mother-site too, thus helping to achieve what must be the main Key Performance Indicator of the brand behind this campaign. The first great viral marketing campaign of 2009.

Technology in 2009

Mobile computing grew immensely in 2008 with the launch of the Apple iPhone, the web book (those mini lap tops) and Google's open source Android operating system. In 2009, more than ever before, digital marketing to consumers on the move is going to provide clever marketers with a rich opportunity...(see below)

Cheeky mobile marketing

Speaking of which, check out two interesting mobile applications on behalf of Fanta. One takes the notorious mosquito technology used to repel teens from popular hangouts and subversively twists it in favour of our youth.

Pay-as-you-go computing

Microsoft's latest Patent application looks to offer businesses a computer with scalable performance level components and selectable software and service options with a pay-as-you-use fee. This would allow consumers to select a level of performance related to processor, memory, graphics power, etc that is driven not by a lifetime maximum requirement, but rather by the need of the moment.

Internet-enabled TV

Convergence is being discussed between Yahoo! and Intel who have high hopes for Internet-enabled TV. They are developing set top boxes with some big players that give added content to viewing; like a working version of the red button currently available on interactive TV.

Facebook sues social-network aggregator Power.com

Website consolidation could be hindered as Facebook filed a lawsuit against Power.com last week. Power.com is a portal that allows users to login to multiple social-networks and interact with them from one place. Facebook has been temporarily removed from the service much to the annoyance of some of its users.

Not Sci-Fi anymore

3D TV is coming soon from Sky. You have to wear Proclaimers style glasses to view the 3D images but this technology is being taken very seriously. George Lucas is creating 3D versions of the Star Wars films and other studios are already developing 3D versions of existing, as well as new productions.

Beware of UGC content

Adding User Generated Content (UGC) to your website sounds very now but beware... Did you know it may reduce your sites listings in Google or remove it altogether? However there are ways to avoid this issue.

Don't try this at home

Believe it or not, Disruptive Marketing whereby brands high-jack blog sites and the like with commercial messages is still going on. If anyone mentions the idea of trying out such dodgy tactics, you know what to say.

Apple's never ending product design innovation?

It's a bit early for April Fools Day but we thought you'd appreciate this clip nonetheless.
